The third day of the conference (Friday 28 July) is dedicated to running professional development and training. A diverse offering of half-day and full-day workshops are on offer to conference delegates, as well as non-conference delegates. Three workshops are free to conference delegates, but the costs for the other workshops are additional to the conference registration.

Description | This course is intended for supervisory and management personnel who are involved in drilling operations, but do not have a practical background in it. It covers the fundamentals of drilling, starting with general drilling terminology and the different types of drilling and their application. Methods covered include diamond drilling, reverse circulation, auger, water well, SPT and cable tool. Further detail is covered around the use of drilling lubricants, directional drilling, in-hole tooling configurations and safety and maintenance requirements across the drilling operation. |

Description | The Exploration Data Centre (EDC) stores Queensland’s geoscientific data and information, including drill core and cuttings from government and company exploration programs, rock/geochem samples and petrographic slides from regional mapping and field work, geophysical data including raw and processed seismic data, company exploration reports, and a HyLogger™ facility. Digital catalogues of material held at EDC link to various geoscientific databases including boreholes and geophysical surveys. The visit will tour the EDC facilities that support exploration, mining and research, providing insights into the state’s geological features and resource potential. |

Description | The visit to the Mitchell Services drilling depot will include inspection of drilling rigs and support services, equipment used to perform different drilling methods, including bits, rods and ancillary equipment, including survey and orientation tools. Description | This 3 day course aims to enhance data analysis and communication skills through the application of Leapfrog Geo software. The hands-on training will include a major overview of software functionality followed by practice on real-world datasets - attendees can also work on their own data if desired. The course will explore the relationships between lithology, alteration and structure to identify controls on metal distribution and investigate exploration drilling opportunities. |
